From a UPN press release:
CHARISMA CARPENTER AND STEVE GUTTENBERG JOIN THE CAST
OF UPN'S "VERONICA MARS"
Charisma Carpenter ("Angel") and Steve Guttenberg ("The Poseidon Adventure") have joined the cast of UPN's VERONICA MARS, beginning with the critically acclaimed drama's second season premiere.
Carpenter will play Kendall Casablancas, a sexy trophy wife and stepmother to brothers Dick (Ryan Hansen) and Cassidy "Beaver" (Kyle Gallner) Casablancas, two of Veronica's (Kristen Bell) rival, affluent schoolmates. She will appear in at least six episodes. Meanwhile, Guttenberg will star as Woody Goodman, a charismatic major league baseball team owner and leading candidate in the local race for mayor of Neptune, Calif. To show his support for the community, his daughter will be transferring from her private school to Neptune High. He will appear in at least seven episodes.
VERONICA MARS stars Kristen Bell ("Reefer Madness") as a smart, fearless 18-year-old apprentice private investigator dedicated to solving the toughest mysteries of her wealthy seaside community, Neptune, Calif., where the rich and powerful make the rules, own the town and the high school, and desperately try to keep their dirty little secrets just that...secret.
Carpenter recently completed shooting the feature film "Voodoo Moon" opposite Eric Maibus. In television, she portrayed the character Cordelia Chase for seven years on the hit series "Angel" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," after originally being featured in a recurring role. Later, she returned to "Angel" for one episode as a guest star for the series' landmark 100th episode.
In television, Carpenter recently guest starred on "LAX" with Heather Locklear, as well as on several episodes of "Charmed." She also co-starred on "Miss Match" with Alicia Silverstone and Ryan O'Neal. In addition, Carpenter starred in the title role of the television movie "See Jane Date," based on the book by Melissa Senate. She has also appeared in several other television shows and feature films.
Steve Guttenberg, who has starred in a dozen films that earned in excess of $100,000,000 at the American box office, is the star of the upcoming television movie "The Poseidon Adventure." The actor starred in four successful series of films: "Police Academy," "Three Men And A Baby," "Short Circuit" and "Cocoon," as well as such acclaimed dramatic hits as "Diner" and "The Boys From Brazil."
His television credits include the mini-series "The Day After" and "Miracle On Ice."
He has a number of directorial efforts, including "P.S., Your Cat Is Dead," the film version of the respected James Kirkpatrick play, which Guttenberg also starred in, wrote and produced.
VERONICA MARS is from Silver Pictures Television, in association with and distributed by Warner Bros. Television Production Inc. Production services provided by Stu Segall Productions, Inc. The show airs Wednesdays (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on UPN.
And by the way, bite me, Television Academy.

awake
And I love me some Charisma Carpenter. But I heard before she was joining, so I'm not excited about it as Guttenberg! Oh, man. Now I need to watch Police Academy and Three Men and A Baby.
And I was pretty sick of all the Buffy comparison even before this.
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
Re: Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
I don't know what to think of this. I never watched Buffy so I wouldn't know if this Charisma girl is any good and I still have to Google the other guy.
And you have to watch Buffy, if not only to enrich your television experience.
Steve Guttenberg is who I'm more excited about. I hearted the first two Police Academy movies, and three men and a little baby!
Steve Guttenberg - hey, I haven't seen the guy in years. I say give him a chance. After all, the writing's still good no matter who says the lines.
Sincerely, Allaine

VM loves Buffy and yall need to answer my questions!!!!!
Re: VM loves Buffy and yall need to answer my questions!!!!!
Love Charisma. I am eager to see her play a rich stepmother because we all know she does catty so well.
I am a little disturbed by all the Buffy recasting but then again no one really remarks on how many soap opera actors the show has hired.
Plus, so far, there's been 2 former Buffy cast members on the show. But there's also been 2 former Mean Girls (Amanda Seyfreid and Johnathan Bennet) cast members on the show.
IMO, it doesn't matter where they came from, just what they'll bring to the show.
And in response to earlier comments, I could never see SMG fitting in with this cast and group of characters. Putting SMG and Kristen in the same show or same scene would be absurd, as nearly all SMG roles are main/spotlight roles. Let's face it, Kristen already has that covered exceptionally well.
And awesome news!
All around awesome post in general.

I did like Charisma on Buffy, but beyond that she hasn't done anything that impressive. I watch Angel re-runs and wonder what alternate universe of weirdness I've slipped into when Cordelia's being all... not Cordelia. *shudders*
If CC is the Tara they couldn't get, then I'm happy. But yeah... I don't consider Guttenburg or Charisma to be "names." They're maybe B or C list.
And while I don't hate Steve Guttenburg... I don't know if he can pull off charismatic. Unless they mean goofy charm, in which case, he can. I'm sorry, he's just a pretty goofy looking guy. If he's supposed to be seedy in any way, I don't know if I have that much confidence in him. And yes, I have seen the cinematic wonder that was "Three Men and a Baby." I wonder who they're going to get to play his daughter and if she's going to be at all important. Do you think they'll get another name?
Oh well, this isn't too bad, but this isn't super fantastic for me. And at least they didn't give that Hilton a contract.
